Palm Springs world-class resorts and rich agriculture attract innovative chefs from around the world. Thanks to the Coachella Canal, the Coachella Valley is one of the most productive growing regions in the country. Locally-based chefs cook up farm-to-table cuisine, put their own twists on American classics, and create flavorful dishes inspired by the diverse culture in the region. So it comes as no surprise to us that despite the past years’ restrictions, new eateries are popping up all over Palm Springs.
We’ve put together a sampling of our favorite new spots to try in 2021.
The owners of Eight4Nine and 533 Viet Fusion have teamed up to create a rustic but handsome looking Gastropub in the bustling Uptown District of Palm Springs. With 24 beers on tap, bar bites and hearty meals like Chicken Fried Chicken, this spot feels like the place to come after a day skiing down Big Bear Mountain. It’s a far cry from the midcentury designs you’ll find in most Palm Springs restaurants, but we are all for this refreshing change!
Must try: Roly’s Cubano Sandwich
The posh new bar and bistro built in the plaza that housed the former Stein Mart pays homage to artist, diarist, and designer Cecil Beaton. The owners are looking to create a space for “those who follow the beat of their own drum, horn or whatever inspires them to create, to be individuals, and to embrace diversity.” With items on the menu like “The Vreeland” and “Cactus Slim” and walls painted with murals by local artist Tysen Knight, this is the spot to let your inner artist shine.
Must try: The Beaton BurgerBoozehounds
Dog lovers rejoice because this new restaurant on Palm Canyon Drive is a place where “Dogs Bring Their Humans.” This contemporary indoor-outdoor space is a coffee, co-worker and lunch spot by day and the place to be for happy hour by night. Their cocktail program is curated by mixologist Justin Gordon and pairs nicely with their fresh Southern California cuisine. You’ll even find an entire menu dedicated to your furry companions!
Must try (human): Aunt Donna’s Dirty Poodle
Must try (dog): The Weenie-Tini El Patio
The family-run Mexican restaurant “Felipes” has a dedicated fan base (thanks to their generous Margarita pours) and have just expanded to a new location to support their local customers! Located in the diamond of Palm Springs, come taste the festive flavors of all the classics during this lively dining experience.
Must try: Taco’s Lidia
